Insidious (2010): THE SURPRISE OF THE YEAR
I'm not a fan of James Wan . Saw was not bad but with his next film, Dead Silence , put a leg back or rather proved his talent for the cinema could be questioned for its lack of originality. And it was an accident because Death Sentence (the next film's director) again showed an alarming lack of ideas. But watch where, when his career seemed totally depressed video store products for appears Insidious causing a bunch of good reviews (also negative, of course) and especially a surprise box office and barely contained and a half million dollars has so far collected nearly 50 million USA only (!!!).

first thing that draws attention from the credits is that strange mixture of horror 70's and 80's . If you suddenly come to mind many titles from the golden age of terror drive (you know, Al Final De La Escalera , The Exorcist) and some of today's cinema (as Paranormal Activity, not vain his director Oren Peli is one of the producers of the movie). This is reinforced by the presence of the legendary Barbara Hershey ( prota of The Ente , one of the films most frightening of history for my taste, shot in the early 80's and who has influenced quite this Insidious , of \u200b\u200bcourse) and a soundtrack signed by Joseph Bishara that recreates very well acoustic environments of horror movies from the late 70's and early 80's .
The film's cast is also appealing, there are of Protas Patrick Wilson (the pederast of Hard Candy) and mother Rose Byrne sexy. But the best are the first few minutes of film that looks like a variant Terror In Atmityville but full of freshness and former delusions mysterious history that promise a new way to face the terror by now ... but soon everything ends up being a mixture between Poltergeis t , Paranormal Activity thousand titles yesterday and today, although indeed a sober (or under budget) and good taste, I must say.
No, Insidious is not the height of originality, fresh elements mixed with some very stale and unable to deviate from some cliches and stereotypes of the genre (parapsychology experts, the medium of rigor, the priest to visit, etc) but when compared to Dead Silence is almost a masterpiece. James Wan has learned to make films and although I do not make any movie in the future truly original and revolutionary at least I have this it can become an instant cult gem. I've had a pipe, the end is not bad and as Series B has its charm. Certainly for me the best horror film so far this year and a pleasant surprise, most coming from James Wan. Do not miss it, fans of the genre, pure and simple!
